CLE Scholarship Program

The North Carolina Bar Association Litigation Section recognizes that, although the public perceives lawyers to be among the most affluent members of society, in fact many attorneys struggle to make ends meet, need to pay off large amounts of law school debt, or sometimes suffer from economic hardship due to the poor job market, disabilities, or other factors. The NCBA Litigation Section wants membership in, and services from, the NCBA Litigation Section to be available to attorneys regardless of their ability to pay. We understand that one of the greatest services available for members is the high quality continuing legal education sponsored by the NCBA. As a result, the NCBA Litigation Section has established a Scholarship program for CLE program tuition for the 2023 Litigation Section Program, being held In-Person Live and via Live Webcast on Thursday, November 30, 2023. What do the Scholarships cover?

The Scholarships will pay the NCBA member registration fee for the program. A limited number of Scholarships are available. NCBA Litigation Section CLE Scholarships will not exceed 12.5 credit hours and must be used within the NCBA Litigation Section fiscal year awarded. Once approved for a NCBA Litigation Section CLE program Scholarship, you are required to attend the CLE program specified on your application unless the program has been cancelled. If you are unable to attend that CLE program, your Scholarship will be forfeited. You will be required to submit a new application for a different program. Only a certain number of Scholarships per NCBA Litigation Section CLE will be awarded.

Who is eligible for the Scholarship?

Consideration will be given to an applicant’s length of practice and percentage of practice that involves litigation. Any attorney member of the NCBA Litigation Section is eligible to apply for CLE Scholarships. Non-member attorneys interested in CLE Scholarships are required to apply for membership in the Litigation Section before or concurrently with submission of an application for CLE Scholarships. Scholarships are not available for affiliate member CLE tuition.

Is there a specified type of attendance?

The NCBA Litigation Section believes that one of the benefits of CLE programming, beyond the excellent content provided, is the opportunity to network with fellow attorneys. To that end, this scholarship is being awarded for in-person attendance at the North Carolina Bar Association Bar Center, 8000 Weston Parkway, Cary. Consideration will be given for virtual attendance on a case by case basis with demonstrated need, but the Section hopes that scholarship recipients can attend in-person.

How do I apply for the Scholarship?

Please complete the form below. Scholarship applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, November 17. If application is not received by then it will not be considered.

We will notify you if your Scholarship has been awarded; please, block out your schedule for the event you are applying for so that you are ready to attend. Incomplete applications received will be returned without review.

What about confidentiality?

Although the NCBA Litigation Section may publicize the fact that Scholarships have been awarded, and the number of Scholarships so awarded, the individual identities of Scholarship applicants shall remain strictly confidential, unless the recipient allows for publication.
