DEI Committees | August 2024, Vol. 1
In a time when the mention of DEI evokes questions, why am I encouraging you to consider creating a committee or continuing your work in a committee? Simple! Whatever acronym you choose, the goal is to create spaces where people of all ages, backgrounds, genders, abilities, races, etc. can feel valued, encouraged to contribute, and connected. I hope that your section or committee is committed to those ideals in a way that builds value instead of checking boxes!
As this new bar year begins, consider making new connections and embarking on new collaborations that help to move the needle towards belonging. My 8th grade daughter’s middle school is basing their school year on the book, What Do You Do With A Chance? by Kobi Yamada. The book challenges us to face opportunities with courage and new experiences with a “yes”. Let’s see what amazing things happen when we decide to take a chance on continuing to build an organization that is inclusive and open to all of our members!
