Legal Practice Hall of Fame Class of 2023: Troy C. Homesley Jr.
Troy C. (“TC”) Homesley, Jr. is a native of Cherryville, North Carolina. He obtained his undergraduate degree from his beloved university, The University of North Carolina. Interestingly, Homesley got his undergraduate degree having never gotten his high school diploma. He obtained his law degree from UNC in 1958. Following law school, TC served in the Army JAG Corps from 1958 until 1962 when he was discharged as a Captain. Homesley practiced law in Iredell County his entire career. He began his legal career with Collier, Haris and Collier in 1962. The firm became known as Homesley, Jones, Gaines & Dixon in 1972 and then later Homesley, Gaines, Dudley and Clodfelter. Homesley practiced law for more than 60 years. He practiced as a general practitioner but focused his practice on criminal and civil litigation. TC was a trial lawyer in the fullest possible sense.
Homesley served as President of the District 22 Bar Association, President of the Iredell County Bar Association, and served on numerous criminal and civil court committees. TC was President of the Mooresville Jaycees and was instrumental in the voter approval of an ABC store in Mooresville in 1965. Homesley was later recognized as “Outstanding Young Man of the Year in Mooresville.” He served as Chairman of the American Red Cross Blood Chapter in Mooresville for 25 years. Homesley is well known for his sense of humor and candid way of speaking. Even Sarah Parker, Chief Justice for the North Carolina Supreme Court, recognized Homesley “as one of kind” after hearing Homesley present on a panel on ethics. Homesley’s passion for the practice of law is greatly intertwined with his love for his alma mater, The University of North Carolina. Dean Martin Brinkley described Homesley as the embodiment of “The Carolina Lawyer Leader.”
