Speaker Image      Speaker Image

  • Anne M. Keyworth, North Carolina Utilities Commission, Raleigh
  • Nadia L. Luhr, North Carolina Utilities Commission, Raleigh

Join Anne Keyworth and Nadia Luhr from the Public Staff of the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) for an engaging discussion on the recently enacted state law requiring North Carolina’s largest electric utilities to transition to carbon-free electricity generation.

The speakers examine the NCUC’s crucial role in overseeing the decarbonization effort, including its responsibility for reviewing and approving the utilities’ plans to retire coal-fired generating facilities and meet future load growth with carbon-free resources. Additionally, they highlight the involvement of numerous stakeholders in these biannual “Carbon Plan” proceedings, where they address complex legal and policy issues, including how to effectively meet emission reduction requirements in a cost-efficient manner while maintaining grid reliability.

This session provides valuable insights into the role of the NCUC and the state’s statutorily designated consumer advocate, the Public Staff, in this energy transition.
