Peter Bosman of Smith Anderson in Raleigh has been named president of the Raleigh/Durham Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), which operates “59 regional chapters worldwide and comprises more than 100,000 middle-market professionals who invest, own and advise growing companies.”
David Daggett of Daggett Shuler Attorneys at Law in Winston-Salem competed in two world championships in one month at the age of 62: the Ironman 70.3 World Championship (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run) in Utah, placing first in the Ironman Executive Challenge for over 60; and the iconic Hawaii Ironman World Triathlon (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run) in which he competed for the ninth time.
Brian S. Edlin of Jordan Price Wall Gray Jones & Carlton, PLLC in Raleigh has been granted fellowship in the College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL), which was established in 1993 by Community Associations Institute to provide “a forum for the exchange of information among experienced legal professionals working for the advancement of community association governance.”
Steven B. Epstein of Poyner Spruill LLP in Raleigh recently marked the release of his third true crime book by Black Lyon Publishing, LLC, titled “Extreme Punishment: The Chilling True Story of Acclaimed Law Professor Dan Markel’s Murder.” Epstein has also written “Murder on Birchleaf Drive,” which reached No. 1 on Amazon’s bestseller list in the true crime genre, and “Evil at Lake Seminole: The Shocking True Story Surrounding the Disappearance of Mike Williams.”
Afi Johnson-Parris of Johnson-Parris Law, PLLC in Greensboro has been elected vice chair of the ABA Law Practice Division for 2022-23 and will lead the division’s Strategy and Planning Committee. Johnson will serve in 2023-24 as chair-elect and in 2024-25 as chair of the Law Practice Division, which has over 24,000 members throughout the U.S., its territories, and Canada.
Jennifer Morris Jones of Cranfill Sumner LLP in Raliegh has been awarded a Comp Laude Award by WorkCompCentral in the defense attorney category. The award was presented In October in Huntington Beach, Calif., at the WorkCompCentral Comp Laude Awards and Gala, where Jones was also a keynote presenter.
Justin Outling, who serves as director of diversity & inclusion at Brooks Pierce in Greensboro, has been appointed to the Gateway Research Park Board of Directors. The organization provides world-class laboratories and office space to businesses, universities and the local Greensboro community.
Manisha P. Patel of the Law Office of Manisha P. Patel, PLLC in Greensboro has been selected to serve as secretary of the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations Executive Committee. She was originally appointed to a three-year term on the NCWBA Board of Directors in 2021 and previously served as the president of the NCWBA-member North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys for two terms in 2019-2020.
Reid L. Phillips, managing partner of Brooks Pierce in Greensboro, received the highest honor bestowed by the Governor of the State of North Carolina, induction into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, in September in conjunction with the firm’s annual retreat. Jim W. Phillips Jr. of Brooks Pierce made the presentation on behalf of Gov. Cooper in recognition of Phillips’s significant statewide impact in his 45-year tenure with the firm.
Krista Contino Saumby, associate director of career development at Elon Law, has been elected regional president for Region VI of the Hispanic National Bar Association, the country’s largest professional organization representing and advocating on behalf of Hispanic attorneys. The association is divided into 19 regions (U.S., Puerto Rico, and its territories) and regional presidents serve concurrently on its Board of Governors.
Katarina (Katie) Wong of Brooks Pierce in Raleigh was recently welcomed into the Leadership Raleigh Class 45. Leadership Raleigh, organized by the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, “helps prepare the community’s future leaders by providing business and community leaders with the opportunity to discover the Triangle Region while building lasting relationships with professional peers.”
