New Foundation Board Members Elected, Appointed

Afi S. Johnson-Parris and Robert H. Edmunds Jr. of Fox Rothschild in Greensboro have been elected to three-year at-large terms on the North Carolina Bar Foundation Board of Directors, and Linda Funke Johnson of Senter, Stephenson, Johnson in Fuquay-Varina has been appointed to a three-year term as chair of the NCBF Development Committee.

All three have extensive records of service within the North Carolina Bar Association and previously served on the NCBA Board of Governors.

Afi S. Johnson-Parris is a North Carolina Board Certified Family Law Specialist and partner with Fox Rothschild. She has engaged in private practice for more than two decades and previously served in the U.S. Air Force, where she attained the rank of Captain. Johnson-Parris is a graduate of the University of Miami (BBA, Computer Information Systems), the University of Phoenix (MBA/TM, Technology Management) and the University of Virginia School of Law. She has held numerous NCBA leadership roles, including service as chair of the Family Law Section.

Robert H. Edmunds Jr. serves of counsel with Fox Rothschild. He served on the N.C. Supreme Court from 2001-16 following service on the N.C. Court of Appeals and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of N.C. Edmunds is a graduate of Vassar College (B.A., English), the University of Virginia School of Law (LL.M., Judicial Process) and the University of North Carolina School of Law, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. A North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in State and Federal Criminal Law and Appellate Practice, he has held numerous positions in the NCBA including service as chair of the Judicial Independence Committee.

Linda Funke Johnson is the managing attorney and sole shareholder of Senter, Stephenson, Johnson and has been practicing law since 1985. She is a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate, and a past chair of the NCBA Estate Planning & Fiduciary Law Section. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and German from Fairfield University and Juris Doctorate from Quinnipiac College School of Law. Her extensive record of NCBA service includes recognition in 2017 as the CLE Volunteer of the Year.

The NCBF Board of Directors also includes new members who begin service in 2023-24 by virtue of their election, appointment or installation during the NCBA Annual Meeting and summer and organizational meetings of the NCBA Board of Governors.

Kimberly H. Stogner of Womble Bond Dickinson in Winston-Salem joins the board by virtue of her election as president-elect of the NCBA. She will also serve as president-elect of the NCBF and as a member of the NCBA/NCBF Executive Committees, and will chair the NCBA/NCBF Audit & Finance Committees.

Judge Robert C. Hunter of Marion has been installed as chair of the Senior Lawyers Division and will serve on the NCBF Board of Directors by virtue of his service on the NCBA/NCBF Executive Committees. Hunter serves on the Supreme Court of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Jonathan Matthew Bogues of Michael Best in Durham has been installed as chair of the Young Lawyers Division and will serve on the NCBF Board of Directors by virtue of his service on the NCBA/NCBF Executive Committees.

Courtney Thomas of K&L Gates in Raleigh has been elected to a three-year term on the NCBA Board of Governors and will serve on the NCBF Board of Directors by virtue of his appointment to the NCBA/NCBF Audit & Finance Committees.

Shannon Vandiver of Shannon L. Vandiver, PLLC in Huntersville has been elected to a three-year term on the NCBA Board of Governors and will serve on the NCBF Board of Directors by virtue of her appointment to the NCBA/NCBF Audit & Finance Committees.

Christopher G. Browning Jr. of Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders in Raleigh will serve on the NCBF Board of Directors and NCBA/NCBF Executive Committees by virtue of his election to a three-year term as a vice president of the NCBA Board of Governors.

Tammy Nicholson of Truist Bank in Charlotte has been elected to a three-year term on the NCBA Board of Governors and will serve on the NCBF Board of Directors by virtue of her appointment to the NCBA/NCBF Executive Committees.

William A. Oden III of Ward and Smith in Wilmington is entering his second year on the NCBA Board of Governors and will serve on the NCBF Board of Directors by virtue of his appointment to the NCBA/NCBF Executive Committees.
