Another Successful 4ALL Statewide Service Day Is In The Books
Friday, March 4, 2022, was a great day to be a lawyer, and an even better day to be a North Carolina lawyer and member of the North Carolina Bar Association. It was on this date that the North Carolina Bar Foundation presented the 15th Annual 4ALL Statewide Service Day, and it was a huge success.
“It is always inspiring to see how many of our members come out to serve the citizens of our state in this annual endeavor,” said NCBA+NCBF President Jon Heyl. “As one of them said to me today, ‘it makes me proud every year to be a lawyer.’”
The tally sheet for Friday revealed strong call volume throughout the day, thanks to a volunteer army of 318 attorneys and 55 paralegals and law students. A total of 7,387 calls were answered utilizing a virtual format for the second consecutive year.
And, as NCBA+NCBF board member Brandon Robinson noted, it’s the stories behind the numbers that really capture the spirit of 4ALL Statewide Service Day.
“The Telzio format for this and last year’s 4ALL event was easy to use from my laptop computer, and this innovation made it easier for volunteers to coordinate and monitor calls,” Robinson said. “This year, I fielded a relatively small number of calls – 12 of them – but gave most of my callers between 20 and 30 minutes of time. The callers appreciated the depth and candor in discussing critical legal issues.
“One man from the Raleigh area had just learned of the service by seeing a TV announcement, and decided to dial in on an HOA issue that he and I thoroughly discussed, much to his satisfaction. At least several of the callers went out of the way to express thanks to NCBF for offering this public service, at no cost to any of them. What I love most about 4ALL is that it not only helps people with important issues, but also builds goodwill on the part of the public for the legal profession in general.”
The success of this year’s event, like so many in the past, also depended on our loyal network of community partners spread across the state. With that in mind, special thanks is extended to:
- WLOS – Asheville
- WBTV – Charlotte
- WFMY – Greensboro
- WNCT-TV – Greenville
- WRAL – Raleigh
- WECT-TV – Wilmington
- Hutchens Law Firm – Fayetteville
- Legal Aid of North Carolina – Statewide
The co-chairs of this year’s 4ALL Statewide Service Day were Alicia Edwards of Greensboro and Stephanie Crosby of New Bern.
“Thank you to the 100s of attorneys answering 1000s of legal questions on March 4,” Edwards said. “What an incredible public service! Each and every person I spoke with throughout the day was so grateful to the North Carolina Bar Foundation community for this event and the knowledge we were sharing.
“I am proud to have participated and to have led the effort with Stephanie Crosby, the NCBF staff, and the site chairs. I cannot wait to volunteer next year. I hope you’ll join me!”
