Wills For Heroes Visits Orange County

Wills for Heroes has been providing free estate planning documents with a smile since 2007.

The Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association will hold its next Wills for Heroes event in Orange County on Saturday, Sept. 30. The event will take place at the University of North Carolina School of Law, located at 160 Ridge Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.

Wills for Heroes provides free estate planning documents for first responders and their spouses. The Wills for Heroes Foundation was established by attorneys Anthony Hayes of South Carolina and Jeff Jacobson of Arizona in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, wherein numerous first responders who lost their lives that day left behind no estate planning documents.

The NCBA Young Lawyers Division adopted Wills for Heroes as a public service project in 2007 and has since hosted free estate planning events throughout the state with the support of the North Carolina Bar Foundation Endowment. Volunteer attorneys in North Carolina have since prepared thousands of estate planning documents at no charge.

Appointments run from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. and there is no charge for this service, which is offered exclusively to law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and other first responders.
