Lawyer Referral Service
About the Lawyer Referral Service
If you use the Lawyer Referral Service, it will cost you $50 for an initial 30-minute consultation with the attorney. By engaging with the services offered here, you agree to receive a referral and other LRS-related communications via the email address that you provide.
Find a lawyer online (self-referral)
The LRS does not make referrals for pro bono legal services. However, limited income individuals may qualify for a free question-and-answer legal service called NC Free Legal Answers. Learn more and find out if you qualify.
LRS member lawyers make themselves available for a one-time meeting at a reduced rate, charging a fee of no more than $50 for an initial 30-minute consultation. Fees for consultations longer than 30 minutes and fees for ongoing representation are set by each lawyer.
Lawyers who accept referrals through the referral service do not work for free. If you would like to learn more about your options prior to meeting with an attorney, you might consider attending an informational clinic hosted by Legal Aid of NC.

The NCBA and the LRS cannot refer you to free legal services. However, if you cannot afford to hire an attorney you may qualify for help through Legal Aid of North Carolina. If you need assistance with shelter, food or emergency support, please contact the 2-1-1 service.
The Lawyer Referral Service is a public service offered by the North Carolina Bar Association.
